Assoc Prof Rene Krause

Head of Division: Interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Medicine

A/Prof Krause is a Family Physician with a PhD and a Master's degree in Palliative Medicine. She has 20 years of clinical experience in Palliative Medicine and 10 years of training supervision and research at the University of Cape Town. Currently, she serves as the Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine, Community and Emergency Care at the University of Cape Town. A/prof Krause is the convenor of the postgraduate diploma in Palliative Medicine/Care. She works clinically at Groote Schuur Hospital, providing consultations in palliative care. At Groote Schuur Hospital, she collaborates with various disciplinary teams, conducting combined ward rounds and providing consultations in palliative care throughout the 900-bed hospital. She is a board member of the African Palliative Care Association and serves as the assistant editor of the Journal of Primary Health Care and Family Medicine. Her research interests include strengthening and integrating palliative care practices across the continuum of care.
