Healthcare professionals face competing obligations to their patients, employers, and themselves. When these competing obligations cannot be resolved, healthcare professionals have reported experiencing symptoms of moral suffering, including injury, distress, and even burnout. Moral resilience — the ‘capacity of an individual to sustain or restore their integrity in response to moral adversity’— has been proposed as a resource to address moral suffering while contributing to well-being. This course aims to build moral resilience in healthcare practitioners by equipping them with the tools of critical thinking and ethical reasoning. In the words of the late Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu: ‘Don’t raise your voice, improve your argument.’
