Fungai Machirori

Visiting Fellow

Fungai is a storyteller, ethnographer and archivist who weaves digitality into her ways of seeing the world. Her current area of interest is African digital cosmopolitanism, an original conceptualisation of hers through which she explores how Africans use, and have used, the internet to globalise their narratives. Previously, Fungai founded Her Zimbabwe, an organisation that engaged young Zimbabwean women around feminism, blogging and storytelling. She has done work with a range of organisations including the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice, UNDP, UNESCO and the Association of Women in Development (AWID). She holds a Masters Degree in International Development from the University of Reading and has completed fellowships with the Tow-Knight Center for Journalism, the Five Colleges Women’s Research Center and Africa No Filter, among others. She is also the host of the podcast, The Digitally Native Podcast with Fungai Machirori.
