Prof Richard M. Hall
Prof Richard M Hall has the Chair of Biomechanical and Oncological Engineering in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham. By education, Richard is a physicist, having gained a PhD from the University of Lancaster but then transferred to medical engineering in 1991 as a postdoctoral researcher at Durham University. He was made Professor at Leeds in 2006. He moved to Birmingham in 2024. His research portfolio is focused on joint replacements, traumatic and pathological fracture and other novel medical interventions, including those utilised in metastatic bone disease arising from cancer. He is currently the
• Lead on a flagship UKRI/EPSRC Programme Grant, Oncological Engineering,
• Lead on International Centre to Centre Award with Uppsala University and ETH Zurich and,
• Co-ordinator for EU MSCA European Training Network, BioTrib.
He is a UK Nominated Expert for ISO Technical Committee 150 ‘implants for surgery’. Richard is passionate about collaborative and interdisciplinary research and believes that internationalisation is a key strand for ensuring an equitable share of research outcomes.
Our in-person meeting will be in held in Classroom 1 on the third floor of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. For those watching online, we have a zoom link below. The meeting starts at 10:30 am. We will spend the first 10-15 minutes on announcements (grants, publications etc) and research centre business. The webinar starts at 10.45am.
