The African Journal of Emergency Medicine (AfJEM) is the continent's first open-access, internationally indexed emergency medicine journal, established to amplify African perspectives, regional priorities, and scholarly leadership. AfJEM provides a vital platform that elevates African research and strengthens global discourse on emergency care in low- and middle-income settings. As the official journal of the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM), AfJEM publishes original research, case reports, systematic reviews, and educational content relevant to emergency care across diverse African contexts. The journal operates under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief A/Prof Peter Hodkinson and benefits from the strategic guidance of AFEM CEO Dr. Lauren Lai King. Through AfJEM, the Division of Emergency Medicine contributes to building the evidence base for emergency care in Africa and fostering a community of emergency medicine researchers and practitioners across the continent.
