DHSE Takes the Plunge
As a result of the new year, the Department of Health Science Education (DHSE) decided as a team to take a different approach when it comes to departmental meetings. The concern has been brought about how sitting for prolonged hours in confined spaces during a meeting not only has many health risks but also reduces concentration and attention. While indoor meetings are convenient for rainy and stormy days, this is not a great option if you want your team to brainstorm new ideas and increase creativity.
On the 16 February 2026, DHSE took the chance to try something different for our regular departmental meetings and decided to do our first cold plunge as a team at Saunders Rock Beach, Sea Point under the blazing hot sun. As icy cold as the Atlantic Ocean is, it was a great way to refresh and get ready for the rest of the workday. This was a great way for everyone to get out of the office.
Many that participated in the cold plunge had great things to say about their experience being in the water and how they were ready to tackle the rest of the day knowing that they made a great choice of doing something completely different that is out of their ordinary routines.
Challenge for you: Brainstorm new ideas to make your meetings more interesting.
Will your team be brave enough to take the cold plunge?
