Introduction

My research interests lie in paediatric audiology, audiological rehabilitation, early detection and intervention, and the development of contextually relevant audiology assessment tools. These areas are underpinned by my commitment to socially responsive and equitable audiology practice, with a particular focus on improving access to culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment and intervention for diverse South African communities. My Master’s research focused on the translation and validation of a paediatric audiology assessment tool into isiZulu, while my current PhD research builds on this work by investigating the clinical utility of the tool and establishing age-appropriate normative data for young South African children. More broadly, my research seeks to contribute to evidence-based approaches that are responsive to the linguistic, cultural, and contextual factors influencing paediatric hearing assessment and early intervention in South Africa. I also supervise undergraduate student research across a range of audiology topics, with an interest in supporting emerging researchers and research that responds to local clinical and community needs.
