Dr Tania de Villiers was nominated and elected as a Board Member of the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International (NNVAWI) on 3 July 2023. She is the only representative from the African continent to serve on the board.
The Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International (NNVAWI) is an international organisation dedicated to the elimination of all forms of violence against women and gender-based violence. Its mission is to advance nursing and midwifery education, practice, research, and public policy in order to address the health and social consequences of violence in women’s lives and to promote meaningful social change.
Founded in 1985, NNVAWI fosters the development of empowering, woman-centred nursing and midwifery approaches that support survivors in achieving personal autonomy and well-being. The Network serves as a global voice for nurses and midwives, highlighting their unique leadership role in prevention, advocacy, and intervention. It brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, policymakers, and community activists to strengthen evidence-based responses to gender-based violence and to influence health policy at local, national, and international levels.
